Iron County Local Homeless Council Hosts Candidate Conversation

Meet Local City Council Candidates, Discussion Focused on Housing, Homelessness, Hunger and Poverty

[Cedar City, Utah]: The Iron County Local Homeless Council (ICLHC) announced an election preparation event focused on the topics of housing, homelessness, hunger, and poverty in the community. The event, the first hosted by the council, is open to all community members interested in participating in solutions supporting the most vulnerable populations in the community. The event will be held in the community classroom at Libertad Apartments located at 1044 N. Hovi Hills Drive, Cedar City, Utah, 84721 on Thursday, July 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will be live streamed via the council’s Facebook page.

“As a City Councilman and chairman of the LHC for the past several years I have seen the vital need to have conversations that address needs for the homeless in our community!  Unless you work with these people on a daily basis, as the members of this committee do, it looks as if there are no needs in our area. The community needs to look for ways they can help with housing, homelessness, hunger and poverty. It is real and does exist!” says Ron Adams, “It will take a community effort to meet the needs that are all around us!”

The ICLHC is hosting the event to broaden the awareness of the issues and to provide a platform for city council candidates to share their knowledge, vision, and solutions for the critical issues faced by the community, including:

·         Gaps in vital services – mental health, substance abuse programs and facilities

·         Increased collaboration and support with service providers, local government

·         Development of a housing plan for the community
